Private Swimming Lessons for Kids

Have you got a child who needs a little extra support with learning to swim? Maybe you’ve tried group lessons and they weren’t a good fit.

Solution: Private Lessons with Coach Dana

Child swimming with coach

Coach Dana specializes in working with kids, especially those with big feelings, high needs, and challenging behaviours. With this set of private beginner lessons, she’ll be right there in the water with your child, giving them 100% of her attention. She’ll help your child develop foundational water safety and swimming skills while also having a lot of fun!

Dana has a Bachelor of Education and has spent many years working with children in various capacities, including swimming. From 2017 to 2025, she worked in a group home setting, supporting kids with trauma backgrounds. This past year, she’s been a teacher at Elves Special Needs Society, working with students with complex neurodiversity.

Investment: $350* for a set of five 30-minute private lessons. Each lesson is completely tailored to your child’s needs. Following the fifth lesson, you’ll get a document that summarizes your child’s progress and provides recommended next steps.

*Please note that facility admission fees are not included in these prices. If you have a membership to the pool, you can scan your card for entry. If you don’t have a membership, you can pay the drop-in rate or purchase a multi-admission pass. (For a child, this typically works out to $6–$9 per visit).

Do you have more than one child? Want to save a little money?

Solution: Semi-Private Lessons with Coach Dana

Children swimming together with coach

If you have children who are close in age, have similar levels of swimming ability, and get along most of the time, you can save time and money with a semi-private lesson, where one instructor teaches two children at the same time.

Investment: $550* (that’s only $275 per child vs. $350 for private lessons) for a set of five 30-minute semi-private lessons. Each lesson is completely tailored to the children’s needs. Following the fifth lesson, you’ll get a document that summarizes the children’s progress and provides recommended next steps.

*Please note that facility admission fees are not included in these prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where in Edmonton are you located?+

Some of our favourite pools for children’s lessons are Commonwealth, Grand Trunk, and Bonnie Doon. These pools have shallow areas and warmer temperatures that make swimming more pleasant for kids.

What days and times are available for coaching sessions?+

As a teacher, Dana’s schedule changes throughout the year. During the school year, she is available on weekends and prefers to book sessions between 10 am and 4 pm. Over the summer, she prefers to book lessons on weekdays between 11 am and 4 pm but can be flexible to meet the needs of your family.

Are you a certified swim coach/instructor?+

Yes, Dana is certified in swim coaching through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

Do you follow a specific curriculum?+

Nope. Every lesson is customized just for your child! In the past, Dana has taught using Red Cross and Lifesaving Society swimming curricula. While having a curriculum is great for teaching group lessons and for inexperienced instructors, at this point, Dana has a wealth of knowledge and experience that she can draw upon to give your child exactly what they need.

What’s your cancellation policy?+

We want to make our services as accessible as possible for people who may have chronic illnesses, disabilities, and executive dysfunction, all of which can lead to difficulties with reliable attendance. We also recognize that some people may rely on having something scheduled (and not easily rescheduled) to give them the motivation to show up (even when it’s something they want to do!) With that in mind, and also our own needs for a predictable schedule and cashflow, when you fill in the intake form, you get to choose between having either one or two free cancellations/rescheduling (giving at least 2 hours notice). Any subsequent cancellation or cancellation without sufficient notice will result in a $40 fee, which must be paid prior to rescheduling the session or attending the next scheduled session.
